admitted to the Manchester College of Art where he studied painting under the guidance of
Norman Adams, who became his mentor. Adams was later to become the Keeper at the
renowned Royal Academy Schools. Two years after graduating, Alan was awarded the Granada
Fellowship in Fine Arts at the Institute of Advanced Studies at Manchester Polytechnic.

He taught at several colleges of art in England and was represented by the prestigious
Piccadilly and New Art Center galleries in London. During this time he participated in many
group exhibitions in the UK and Europe including the first British Drawing Biennale; the
Kunsterner Hus National Museum, Oslo, Norway and the Royal College of Art, London.

Alan marked his arrival in the US with a two person show with Sonia Delauney at the Edna.P
Gurewitsch gallery in NYC. He has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including the
National Academy of Arts & Letters, Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo and Marlborough Fine Art,
New York. Alan was represented by A.M.Sachs and Katharina Rich Perlow galleries, also in
